BVSCA Membership Meeting July 2007 Rescheduled for August 8, 2007
Time: 7:30PM
Place: BVSCA's community room
located on N.Utah Street between the Willow Restaurant and the
Windsor Plaza condominiums.
We want to address citizens in the apartment and condominium complexes as well as the single family homes in our area, encouraging membership and active participation in our civic association. The historical record shows that large gains have been made in Ballston-Virginia Square through the active involvement of residents. Each development and improvement has had a champion-a "block representative or captain", or one of our officers on the scene at meetings, on the street, or in the neighborhood collecting signatures, convening citizens, arranging meetings, etc. to ensure that the job goes through to completion. Here are some success stories of our organization occurring now or in the past years.
BVSCA has had representation at the Site Plan meetings held in advance of major construction within the Ballston-Virginia Square boundaries. Many of the street and building parking agreements and arrangements in our area have been made in conjunction with our civic association. Some large building construction has included space for use of community organizations with parking privileges.
BVSCA meets five or six times yearly in the commercial, green glass office building on N. Fairfax Dr. and N. Utah St. The west doorway opens to a public space for neighborhood meetings.
Our representative to the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) meets in the Rural Electrification Association building on Wilson Blvd. across from the Ballston Common. It occasionally meets in private buildings in Clarendon when needed.
Many members of BVSCA attended meetings and provided community input in preparation for construction of the new portions of Washington-Lee High School, Washington Blvd. and N. Quincy St. This work is currently underway.
We participate in Arlington County programs such as Neighborhood Day and the Arlington County Fair held yearly in August. All civic associations furnish volunteers for these events. This summary is just a small sample of involvement where BVSCA is represented. Association officers and members can expand this list greatly. It should be of great interest to citizens inclined toward community involvement.
The Association's Nominating Committee has prepared a Worksheet to assist BVSCA members in submitting the names of their nominess for BVSCA officer positions for BVSCA Membership Year 2007-2008. BVSCA members can use the worksheet to submit your nominations to the Committee using e-mail, U.S/ Mail, or in person at the July 31st meeting. Please submit your nominations as early as possible so that we can produce an acceptable ballot.
The Association urges all members to attend the August 8th Membership Meetingand vote in the election of our officers and representatives for Membership Year 2007-2008.
