ARLINGTON COUNTY DELEGATION TO RECEIVE CITIZEN COMMENTS

The Arlington Delegation to the Virginia General Assembly is scheduled to conduct its annual public meeting to receive citizen comments on the evening of Monday, January 6, 1997. The time and place for the meeting is tentatively scheduled for the Central Library's main conference room, located at 1015 North Quincy Street.

One should call the BVSCA Member Information Line Telephone Number (703) 528-1887 to confirm the final time and place for the meeting. The delegation annually receives public testimony prior to the commencement of the legislative session.

The 1997 regular short legislative session of the Virginia General Assembly will convene on Wednesday, January 8, 1997, and is scheduled to adjourn sine die forty-five days later on Saturday, February 22, 1997. A short legislative session affords the governor of Virginia and the legislature the opportunity to amend the state's biennial budget, the second year of the budget, or in this case the fiscal year (FY) 1998 budget year. The biennial budget of Virginia is proposed by the governor and adopted by the legislature and the governor during a long legislative session of sixty days in the even numbered years. (The governor and legislature also will amend the FY 1997 budget during the upcoming short session, although the amendments only will affect the last quarter of FY 1997 that ends on June 30, 1997.)
